Western Mud Snake (Farancia abacura)

The very docile Western Mud Snake is often seen crossing roads near swampy areas on humid summer nights. Mud snakes can grow to nearly seven feet long, with an average adult length of around five feet. While often fed frogs and fish in captivity, mud snakes almost exclusively eat sirens and amphiumas in the wild. Mud snakes and their prey are often found in shallow, swampy, areas in the south eastern states.
